In the classroom
- Encourage teachers to incorporate special lessons on great peacemakers. This would tie in nicely with an essay contest focusing on past, present, and future peacemakers.
- Encourage students to write letters to themselves regarding the current state of the world, possible solutions, and how the envision the state of the world in 5, 10, 15, and 20 years.
- Distribute copies of speeches given by great peacemakers, including Martin Luther King's "I Have A Dream" speech. Have students memorize and recite chosen speeches in front of the class, or in assembly.
- Increase cross-cultural understanding by giving students opportunities to learn about the contributions of various cultures (ancient and contemporary), and a chance to discuss the difficulties and rewards of cultural diversity. For older students, they could discuss issues of immigration: past and present, immigration for the immigrants' perspective, as well as from an American's point of view.
